James Ainscough was born around 1867 in Blackrod and was the son of James Ainscough (1843) and Mary Ann Waring. In 1871 he was aged 4 and was living in Cock Tavern Yard, Blackrod. In 1881 he was aged 14, was a drawer in a coal mine and was living in Little Scotland, Blackrod. In 1891 he was living at 22 Little Scotland in Blackrod and was a miner aged 25. He married Mary Ann Ollerton in 1889. In 1901 he was aged 34, was working as a coal miner hewer and was living at 99 Lower Ground, Standish with Langtree. In 1911 he was living at 184 Standish Lower Ground and working as a timber man underground.
