Richard Holding was born in 1859 in Blackrod and the son of William Holding (1818) and Alice Alker. In 1861 he was living in Dove Lane, Hindley. In 1871 he was living in Cale Lane, Aspull and working as a drawer in a mine. In 1881 he was living at 10 Longfield Street, Aspull and working as a coal miner. He married Ann Heyes in 1881. In 1891 he was living at 10 Higher Gullet, Aspull, and working as a coal miner. In 1901 he was living at 2 Brook Street, Aspull and working as a coal miner. In 1911 he was living at 111 Clock Face Road, St. Helens, and working as a coal miner.
