John William Ainscough was born around 1865 in Blackrod and was the son of James Ainscough (1843) and Mary Ann Waring. In 1871 he was aged 6 and was living in Cock Tavern Yard, Blackrod. In 1881 he was aged 17, was working as a drawer in a coal mine and was living in Little Scotland, Blackrod. He married Dinah Dickinson in 1890.
