Joseph Booth was the son of William Booth (1840) and Mary, and was born around 1871 in Blackrod. In 1881 he was aged 10, was living in Little Scotland, Blackrod, and was at school. In 1891 he was living at 4 Blundell Lane, Blackrod, and was working as a coal miner. He married Ellen Ann Hampson in 1895. In 1901 he was living at 20 Little Scotland, Blackrod, and working as a coal miner. In 1911 he was living at 378 Manchester Road, Blackrod, and working as a miner. In 1911 he was living at 378 Manchester Road in Blackrod and was working as a haulage hewer in a coal mine.
