Notes for Ralph AINSCOUGH
Ralph Ainscough was born on 5th April 1841 in Haigh, and was the son of William Ainscough (1816) and Fanny Holding. In 1841 he was living at Red Rock Bridge, Arley. In 1851 he was working as a drawer in a coal mine and was living at Canal Row, Haigh. In 1861 he was living with his parents at Farm House in Blackrod and working as a coal miner. He married Ellen Booth, daughter of a grocer called John Booth, at the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Park Road, Chorley on 30th October 1865. The marriage was also registered at the Chorley Register Office. He was then working as a coal miner. In 1870, when his son George was born, he was living in Lindsay Terrace, Aspull, and was a house watchman. In 1871 he was still a house watchman and was living in Little Scotland in Blackrod. In 1874 he was living in Hill Lane, Blackrod. In 1881 he had returned to coal mining and was living at 434 Top Toll Bar in Westhoughton. In 1891 he was still a coal miner and was living at 256 Chorley Road in Westhoughton. In 1898 he was living at 53 Manchester Road. In 1901, he was still a miner and was living at 306 Manchester Road. In 1911 he was working as a colliery lampman and living in the household of his son-in-law Alfred Hilton at 306 Manchester Road. He died from heart disease at 48 Manchester Road on 26th October 1917.
