Abraham Eke was the son of John Eke (1808) and Susannah Scott and was born , probably in Guestwick, in 1836. In 1841 and 1851 he was living on the Green Guestwick. In 1871 he was living in the household of his elder brother William (1833) in Bedlington, near Morpeth, in Northumberland and working in the coal industry.
