Jane Darbyshire was born in 1785 in Duxbury, and married coal miner John Holding in 1806. In 1841 she was living in Grimshaw Cottages, Haigh. In 1851 she was widowed, described as a pauper and hand loom weaver, and living in the household of her son James in Aspull. She died of old age on 18th September 1853 in the Wigan workhouse, aged 67. Her age on the death certificate was given as 65.
