Notes for Thomas POMFREY
Thomas Pomfrey was born in 1786 and christened in Burlingham St Peter on 27th July 1786. He was the son of Thomas Pomfrey (1758) and Sarah Golder. He married Mary Houchen in Norwich on 11th March 1809 and was living in Hingham. In 1841 he was working as a labourer and was living at Fleeters Hill, Hingham. In 1843 he was described as a miller on the marriage certificate of his son, Robert. In 1851 he was working as a groom in the household of Philip Case Gilman, a Lieutenant Colonel on the retired list of the East India Company, in The Street, Hingham. Gilman died on the 9th October 1858. In 1861 Thomas was a servant at Parsonage House in Hingham, and was aged 81. He died of old age in Hingham on 28th April 1864 and was buried at St Andrew's Church on 2nd May. His wife, Mary Houchen, was present at the death. His age was given as 85, but he was probably aged 78.
