James Eke was born in Corpusty in 1849 and was the son of John Eke (1820) and Martha Cottrill. In 1851 he was living in Corpusty. In 1861 he was living in Wellington Road, East Dereham and working as a servant. He married Jane Matilda Cubitt around 1870. In 1871 he was working as a Blacksmith and living at West Pottergate Street in Heigham. In 1881 he was living at 4 Dolman Square, Great Yarmouth and was working as a shoeing smith. In 1891 he was living in Mill Lane, Gorleston and was listed as a farrier. In 1901 he had moved to 48 Olive Road in Gorleston and was working as a foreman shoeing smith. He died in Yarmouth in 1904.
