Henry Allsop was the son of carter William Allsop and Rachel Allsop, and was born in Alderwasley in Derbyshire in 1886. In 1891 he was living with his parents in Alderwasley Lane in Alderwasley. In 1901 he was working as an usher in the private church belonging to Alderwasley Hall, owned by Albert Frederick Butler. In 1911 he was living at his parents house in Wirkswirth, Alderwasley, and was working as a butler. He joined the Grenadier Guards at Caterham on 11th August, 1914 and was discharged in 1919. He married Mabel Mary Pomfrey in Chelsea in 1915.
