Violet Maud M Oldfield was born in 1872 in Norwich and was the daughter of William Oldfield and Salome Elizabeth Emily Broughton (1849). In 1881 she was at school and was living at 8 Salisbury Terrace, Norwich. In 1891 she was working as a braider at the house of her uncle, Lemuel Broughton (1846), at 88 Thorn Lane, Norwich. She married Jacob Campling, a grocer's assistant, in Norwich in 1892. In 1901 she was living at 22 Lawson Road, New Catton.
