Joseph Holding was the son of James Holding (1860) and Ann and was born in Aspull in 1884. In 1901 he was living at the back of 11 Longfield Street and was working as a coal miner. He married Margaret Taylor in the Wigan RD in 1904. In 1911 he was living at 3 Cumberland Street, Whelley, and working as a coal miner.
