Richard Holding was the son of James Holding (1860) and Ann and was born in Aspull in 1887. In 1901 he was living at the back of 11 Longfield Street and was working as a surface colliery labourer. He married Ellen Ann Dickinson in the Wigan RD in 1907. In 1911 he was living at 1 Wright’s Yard, Aspull, and working as a coal miner.
