John Garrould Broughton was born in Beccles in 1889 and was the son of Raymond Broughton (1842) and Louisa Garrould. In 1891 he was aged 2 and living in Ingate Street, Beccles. In 1901 he was aged 12 and living as a boarder with his parents at 3 Lakenham Cottage, Beach Street in Pakefield. In 1911 he was working as a blacksmith's striker and living with his parents at 500 London Road in Lowestoft. He died in the Norwich Outer RD in 1968, aged 79.
