Elsie Winward was born around 1895 in Westhoughton and was the daughter of James Taylor Winward (1862) and Mary Elizabeth. She was the granddaughter of James Winward (1822). In 1901 she was living at 63 Park Road, Westhoughton. In 1911 she was living at 2 Clough Fold, Westhoughton, and was at school.
