Ralph Ainscough was born around 1899 in Hindley and was the son of Michael Ainscough (b. 1864) and Elizabeth Moore. He was the grandson of James Ainscough (b. 1843) and the great-grandson of William Ainscough (b. 1816). In 1901 he was aged 2 and living at 12 Off Houghton Street, Hindley. In 1911 he was living at 198 Wigan Road, Hindley.
