John
Winward was born in Westhoughton around 1848 and was the son of James
Winward (1822) and Mary Taylor. In 1851 he was living at Caldwell
Cottages, Westhoughton. In 1861 he was aged 13 and was living in Chapel
Lane, Westhoughton. He married Ann Mangnall in 1868. In 1881 he was
working as a spinner in a silk mill, was aged 34, and was living at
204 Church Street, Westhoughton. In 1891 he was living at 2 Lime Street
in Westhoughton and working as a mechanic in a silk mill. In 1901
he was aged 53, was living at 4 Derwent Road in Bolton and was working
as a mechanic. He died in 1905.
