John
Waite 1904 |
A
portrait of my great-grandfather John Waite, taken by a Bolton
photographer around 1904. By this time he and his family had
moved from Gorton near Manchester to Horwich. John travelled
each day by train from Horwich to Gorton where he worked as
a boilermaker at the engineering firm of Beyer-Peacock. He was,
as they say, a bit of a lad, and liked a pint of beer or two
before catching the train home from work in the evening. His
wife, Alice Boland, used to meet him at the station to make
sure he didn't sleep through the stop and end up back in Manchester. |
