BENJAMIN
WAITE (1829 - ?)
|
Benjamin
Waite was born in 1829 and christened in Manchester Cathedral on 9th
September 1829. He was the son of William Waite (1795) and Susannah
Carter. In 1841 he was living in Whittle Street, Manchester, in the
household of Thomas Carter, a linen and woollen draper - and probably
the brother of Susannah Carter. He married Mary Ann Bellingall (1828)
at St. John's church in Manchester inn 1847, but is not the father
of Mary Ann's son John, born in 1860. In 1847 he was described as
a warehouse man and in 1848 as a draper. In 1855 he was working as
a draper's assistant at 111 Chapman Street in Manchester. Benjamin
is named, wrongly, as the deceased father of John Waite on John's
marriage certificate in 1897. Benjamin and Mary had at least one daughter:
Elizabeth (1849).
