THOMAS
POMFREY (1786-1864)
|
Thomas
Pomfrey was born in 1786 and christened in Burlingham St Peter on
27th July 1786. He was the son of Thomas Pomfrey (1758) and Sarah
Golder. He married Mary Houchen in Norwich on 11th March 1809 and
was living in Hingham. In 1841 he was working as a labourer and was
living at Thorpe Hall, Hingham. In 1843 he was described as a miller
on the marriage certificate of his son, Robert. In 1851 he was working
as a groom in the household of Philip Case Gilman, a Lieutenant Colonel
on the retired list of the East India Company, in The Street, Hingham.
In 1861 he was a servant at Parsonage House in Hingham - this may
have Philip Gilman's address - and was aged 81. He died of old age
in Hingham on 28th April 1864 and was buried at St Andrew's Church
on 2nd May. His wife, Mary Houchen, was present at the death. His
age was given as 85, but he was probably aged 78.
