Robert
Pomfrey was born in 1816 in Hingham and was the son of Thomas Pomfrey
(1786) and Mary Houchen. In 1841 he was aged 26, was a tailor and
was lodging in the home of William Rawston in Stonegate Street, Little
Walsingham. He married Mary Anne Rawston, William's daughter, on January
22nd 1843, by licence, in the church of St. Gregory in Norwich. On
the day of the 1851 census he was aged 35 and was at his parents'
house in Hall Moor, Hingham. In 1861 he was working as a tailor in
East Street, Langham, and was in Langham in 1871. In 1881 he was aged
65 and working as a tailor at 5 Barnard's Yard, High Street, Lowestoft.
By 1891 he and Mary had moved to 37a Crown Street and he had retired
from tailoring. He died of prostatic disease at 66 St Peter's Street,
Lowestoft on 7th March 1893, aged 77, and was buried on 10th March
in Lowestoft Cemetery, plot 7/93.
