Charles
Pomfrey was born in 1862 in Hingham and was the son of Charles Pomfrey
(1828) and Mary Bayes. In 1871 he moved with his mother and sister
to his uncle's home in London Colney. In 1881 he was working as a
blacksmith in the forge of his uncle, John Bayes (1840) in the Smiths
Shop, London Colney, Shenley, Herts. He married Mary Ann Jemima Allison
in London in 1889. By 1891 he had taken over the forge in London Colney
and was working as a farrier, then and in 1901.
