The Broughton Letters 1837-1890
Letter 12: 4th June 1864 - from Betsy Broughton

386 Kings Road, Chelsea, London

June 4, this is my birthday - 26 today

Dear cousin[1], I received your kind letter and was very pleased to hear that you were all quite well as, thank God, it leaves me at present. Father and mother are both quite well and send their kind love to you all and were pleased to hear that you were all quite well. Dear cousin, I have sent you my portrait [and] hope that you will receive it safe. I shall be very pleased to have yours. Give my kind love to aunt and uncle and cousins and please to write so that I shall receive it in August, as I think of leaving my place by the 25th of August. I can't tell you much about the country. I have not seen it since Christmas, but I like the country much better than London. It is such a noisy place, but here is plenty to see. The parks are looking very nice now. The weather is very warm now. We have had a great deal of rain and cold weather. Dear cousin, I have asked father a great many times to have his likeness taken so that he might send you one, but he seems a long time about it. He would have to go about 4 miles to have one taken. I think that if he started to have it taken, he would alter his mind before he reached the place. He looks fat and well the last time I saw him. You will see by my likeness that I am fat I. don't think that I have any more to say at this present so I must conclude with my kind love to you all. and except the same yourself. I remain your affectionate cousin, Betsy Broughton. Please write soon.

Forget me not
Forget me not
I never shall cease to think of thee

goodbye Miss Broughton
