William Holding was born in 1818 in Duxbury and was the son of John Holding (1785) and Jane Darbyshire. In 1841 he was living in Grimshaw Cottages, Haigh and was probabl working as a coal miner. He married Alice Alker around 1844. In 1851 he was living at Bottoms in Blackrod and working as a miner. In 1861 he was living in Dove Lane Hindley and was a miner. By 1871 he had moved to Aspull, was working as a coal miner and was living in Cale Lane. Alice died after 1871 and William remarried to widow Susannah Brookfield. In 1881 he was living at 10 Longfield Street, Aspull and was a miner. He died before 1891.
