| Peter Holding was born in Hindley in 1872 and was the son of John Holding (1830) and Mary Coman. In 1881 he was living at 7 Longfield Street, Aspull. In 1891 he was living in the Fair Trade Inn, 13 Wigan Road, Aspull, and working as a general servant and barman in his father’s public house. In 1901 he was working as a coal mine shot lighter and boarding in the household of Samuel Darbyshire at 11 Preston Road, Coppull Moor.
