| John Holding was the son of James Holding (1838) and Mary and was born in Hindley in 1870. In 1871 he was living in Ladies Lane, Hindley. In 1881 he was living at 19 Chapel Street in Ilkeston and was working a colliery weighing machine. By 1891 he was living at 34 Station Road in Ilkeston and was a coal miner. He married Florence around 1894. In 1901 he was working as a miner and living at 33 Paul Road in Ilkeston.
