| Charles Holding was born in Blackrod in 1850 and was the son of James Holding (1810) and Jane Goulding. In 1851 he was living at Side of Moor, Aspull. In 1861 he was living in Ladies Lane Hindley, and was working as a drawer in a coal pit. He married Jane around 1870 and, in 1871, was living in Ladies Lane, Hindley.
