JAMES
GARROULD (1738 - 1801)
|
James
Garrould was born in 1738, and was the son of William Garrould (c1697)
and Amy Darn. It is possible, but not yet proved conclusively, that
he married twice. If so, his first marriage was to a woman called
Tabitha. He then married a woman called Abigail - presumably after
Tabitha's death - by whom he had at least two children. James died
in 1801 and was buried on 21st April in St. Andrew's churchyard, Wissett.
The 1801 death date holds for the James who married Tabitha and the
James who married Abigail - pointing to the possibility of them being
one and the same person. James and Tabitha had: James (?), William
(?), Tabitha (?) and Jemima (1766); James and Abigail had at least
two children: James (1774) and William (1776). Owing to the lack of
clarity of the records, it is possible that sons James and William
by Tabitha may have been confused with James and William by Abigail;
alternatively, the James and William by Tabitha may have died at a
young age or in infancy.
