Horace
Garrould was born in 1844 in Woodbridge and was the son of George
Henry Garrould (1818) and Rachel Howell. He was "received into
the church" on 21st December 1846. In 1851, under the mistranscribed
name Thomas, he was listed as living in Chediston Street in Halesworth,
where he attended the chapel school. In 1861, he was aged 16, working
as a shoemaker - probably in his father's employ - and living in Chediston
Street. In 1881 he was aged 35, was working as a shoemaker and was
living in Thoroughfare, Halesworth. In 1883 and 1885 he was listed
as a boot and shoe maker in Bridge Street in Halesworth and he married
Emma Elizabeth Forder in Beccles on 7th April 1883. By 1889 he had
moved to Kirkley and, in 1891, was living at 108 London Road in Kirkley.
In 1901 he was living at 312 London Road. He was listed as a boot
repairer in Union Place, Kirkley, in 1912. He died on 23rd November
1929.
