WILLIAM EKE (1799-1882)
William Eke was born in Corpusty and christened on 8th December 1799. He was the son of William Eke (1768) and Margaret Selth. He married Esther Flood in Thursford on 21st July 1821. In 1841he was living in The Street, Corpusty, and was working as an agricultural labourer. He was described as a gamekeeper on the marriage certificate of daughter Margaret in 1844 and, in 1851, he was working as a gamekeeper in Binham. In 1861 he was aged 60 and a gamekeeper in Westgate, near Binham. In 1871 he was described as a retired farmer and was living at The Green in Binham. William was listed as a farmer in Binham in 1869, and in Binham in 1877. In 1881 he was being looked after by his 14 year old granddaughter Margaret at his house in Binham. William died from old age in Binham on 14th May 1882 aged 82.
