James
Eke was born in Corpusty in 1849 and was the son of John Eke (1820)
and Martha Cottrill. In 1851 he was aged 2 and living in Corpusty.
In 1861 he was living in Wellington Road, East Dereham and working
as a servant. He married Jane Matilda Cubitt around 1870. In 1871
he was working as a Blacksmith and living at West Pottergate Street
in Heigham. In 1881 he was living at 4 Dolman Square, Great Yarmouth,
was aged 31 and was working as a shoeing smith. In 1891 he was living
in Mill Lane, Gorleston and was listed as a farrier. In 1901 he had
moved to 48 Olive Road in Gorleston and was working as a foreman shoeing
smith.
