JAMES PRIOR
EKE (1838 - ?)
|
James Prior Eke was born in Foulsham in 1838 and was the son of Joseph Eke (1811) and Charlotte. In 1841 and 1851 he was living in Bintree Road, Foulsham. In 1861 he was lodging in the household of the father-in-law of his younger sister Harriet (Edward Holsey) in London Street, Hindolveston, and working as an agricultural labourer. He married Lydia Waterson in 1864. In 1871 James was a volunteer corporal in the East Norfolk Militia and was stationed in Gorleston, near Yarmouth. His wife Lydia was living with her in-laws, Joseph and Charlotte, in 1871. The family may have lived in North Yorkshire in the 1870s, as their daughter Mary Jane was born in that area in 1874. Lydia died in 1877 and James married Sarah Ann Harper in 1878. From 1881 to 1901 he was working as an agricultural labourer in Hindolveston.
