SYDNEY GEORGE BROUGHTON (1878 - 1959)

Sydney George Broughton followed his father, Joshua Broughton, into the coach smith trade. This was carried on at 8 Wright's Yard - one of the many yards or "lokes" off Ber Street in Norwich. Judging by Sydney's clothes, the business looked to be prospering. Sydney's wife - Hannah - was the daughter of a Heigham butcher called William Loveday. There is some speculation that Sydney and Hannah may have met while the butcher's cart was being "fettled" by the Broughtons' business in Wright's Yard. All pure guesswork, of course, but a nice, romantic story all the same...
