| Raymond
Broughton was born in Spixworth near Norwich and christened at St
Peter's Church on 1st December 1842. He was the son of John Broughton
(b.1809) and Mary Catherine Coe. In 1851 he was aged 9, was at school
and was living at the forge in Lone Barn, Spixworth. The Broughtons
moved to Norwich before 1861, when he was living as a lodger in Eaton.
In April 1871 he was single and living in Newgate Street, Beccles.
He was working as a blacksmith and gave his age, wrongly, as 22. He
married Louisa Garrould in Halesworth Parish Church on 13th June 1871.
In 1878 he was living at 10 Galatea Terrace, Athens Road in Peckham
Rye. In 1881 he was aged 39 and working as a blacksmith in New Road,
Beccles. In 1891 he was aged 48 and working as a blacksmith in Ingate
Street, Beccles. In 1900 or 1901 he and Louisa and some of the family
moved to Pakefield near Lowestoft, where they boarded with Triphena
Rose (nee Knights) at 3 Lakenham Cottage, Beach Street. He died on
28th March 1912 at 500 London Road, Lowestoft, probably the home of
his daughter Kate Knights. The cause of death was chronic bronchitis
and cardiac failure. He was buried on 1st April 1912 in Kirkley Cemetery,
plot F/81. He was aged 69. |
