| Robert
Broughton was born around 1798 and christened in Butley on 13th January
1798. He was the son of John Broughton (1768) and Ann Bugg. He became
a blacksmith and a farmer and married Sarah Woodyard in Edgefield
in March or April 1821. They had twelve children. From 1836 to 1854,
Robert was described as a blacksmith in trades directories. In 1841
he was living at Cross Green, Edgefield and described as a journeyman.
In 1851 he was listed as a farmer of 30 acres in the census, and was
described as a Senior Farmer living at The Green in Edgefield. In
1861 he was described as a farmer of 23 acres and living at Cross
Road, Edgefield. |
