ROBERT BROUGHTON (1748-1841)
Robert Broughton was born in 1748 in Edgefield. He is probably the eldest son of Robert Broughton (b.1727) and Margaret Middleton. He married Ann King at Plumstead on 22nd January 1771. On the banns of Robert and Ann was an unusual comment: "impediment alleged", and this may have been the illegitimate birth of John Broughton at Barningham Town in 1768.
