LEMUEL BROUGHTON (1846 - 1897)
Lemuel Broughton was born in Spixworth in 1846 and christened on 6th September 1846. He was the son of John Broughton (1809) and Mary Catherine Coe. In 1851 he was aged 5 and living at the forge at Lone Barn, near Spixworth. The family moved to Norwich before 1861; in that year he was working as a mat maker and living at North Infirmary Street. In 1871 he was aged 24, was working as a basket maker, and was living with his parents in Long Row. He married Emily Lucy Mingay, the widow of Owen Murrell, in Yarmouth in 1874. In 1881, he was aged 34 and working as a basket maker in Thorn Lane in Norwich. In 1891 he was aged 44 and working as a basket maker at 88 Thorn Lane. In 1893, when his father died, Lemuel was present at the deathbed and was living at 45 Thorn Lane. He died in 1897 at the age of 50.
