Broughton was born on 4th September 1768 at Barningham Town, fifteen
miles from Plumstead and christened on 10th September as the "illegitimate
son of Ann King". Shortly after this, Ann King married Robert
Broughton (b.1748) at Plumstead. Barningham Town no longer exists.
John married Ann Bugg of Hinton in Suffolk sometime around 1796 and
their first three children were born in Butley. Sometime before 1805,
John and Ann moved to Plumstead, and the rest of their children were
born in either Plumstead or Edgefield. On his son John's marriage
certificate of 1838, John senior is described as a labourer. John
died in 1826 and was buried in Edgefield on 7th November 1826. |
