Alice
Boland was one of the few people in the Ainscough family not
to have been born in Lancashire. She was born in Cuckney in
Nottinghamshire, and her parents - Thomas Boland and Ann Giligan
- were originally from County Kildare, in Ireland. Alice went
into domestic service, working all over Lancashire and particularly
in Manchester. On her 1897 marriage certificate, she gave her
age as 34 - but she was actually four years older than that,
having been born in 1859. She met her husband, my great-grandfather
John Waite, when they were both living in Gorton near Manchester. |
