BOILERMAKING IN BELFAST

Picture from Getty Hulton Archive
The Belfast firm of Harland & Wolff built many famous ships, including the Titanic and her sister ship the Britannic. This is a photograph of a ship's boiler in the Belfast yard. My great-grandfather - John Waite - probably worked as a boilermaker for a short period in Belfast before moving back to Gorton in Manchester. He worked for the engineering firm of Beyer-Peacock in Gorton until his retirement.
