Mary
Bayes was born around 1832 in Great Ellingham and was the daughter
of William Bayes and Sarah. She married Charles Pomfrey (1828) around
1861. She was the daughter-in-law of Thomas Pomfrey (1786). Charles
Pomfrey died in Hingham in 1871. At the time of the 1871 census, Mary
was living with her brother John Bayes at his forge in the Smith's
Shop, Shenley, Herts. Her children were with her at the forge. In
1881 and 1901, Mary was still living at the forge.
