Robert
Ainscough was born around 1851 in Blackrod and was the son of William
Ainscough (1816) and Fanny Holding. In 1861 he was aged 10, was working
a drawer in a coal mine and was living at Farm Lease in Blackrod.
In 1871 he was aged 21, was working as a collier and was lodging with
his elder brother William in Cock Tavern Yard, Blackrod. He married
Elizabeth Winnard around 1880. In 1881 he was aged 29, was working
as a colliery engine winder driver and was living at 14 Regent Street
in Pemberton. In 1891 he was living in Plank Lane, Atherton. In 1901
he was the landlord of the George & Dragon public house in Northumberland
Street, Wigan.
