Mary Ainscough was born around 1874 in Pemberton and was the daughter of John Ainscough (1839) and Alice Baines.. She was the granddaughter of William Ainscough (1816). In 1881 she was aged 7, was at school and was living at 2 Little Lane, Pemberton. In 1891, she was aged 17, was working as a cotton spinner and was living at 171 Enfield Street, Pemberton.
