Margaret Ainscough was born around 1871 in Little Scotland, Blackrod and was the daughter of William Ainscough (1845) and Jane. She was the granddaughter of William Ainscough (1816). In 1871 she was aged 5 months and was living in Cock Tavern Yard, Blackrod. In 1881 she was aged 10, was at school and was living in Little Scotland, Blackrod. In 1891 she was aged 20, was working as a cotton spinner and was living at 23 Hill Lane, Blackrod.
