Ainscough was born in 1874 in Aspull and was the illegitimate son
of Jane Ainscough (1848), daughter of John Ainscough (1810). In 1881
he was living with his mother and stepfather, Robert Halliwell, at
3 Lower Gullet, Aspull. In 1891 he was living at 93 Lower Gullet in
Aspull with his widowed mother.
