George Ainscough was born on 16th December 1870 in Lindsay Terrace,
Aspull. He was the son of Ralph Ainscough (b. 1841) and Ellen Booth.
At the 1871 census he was aged 3 months and living in Little Scotland
in Blackrod. In 1881 he was at school and was living
at 434 Top Toll Bar in Westhoughton. In 1891 he was working
as a railway stoker and was living with his parents at 256 Chorley
Road in Westhoughton. On 5th November 1898, at the age of 27, he married
Mary Ellen Winward at St. Bartholomew's Church in Westhoughton. He
was working as a locomotive fireman and living in Manchester Road
in Westhoughton. In 1901 he was living at 49 New Brunswick
Street in Horwich. After 1901 George became an engine driver. He lived
at 17 Leicester Street - now Leicester Avenue - in Horwich, and then
at 1 Ox Hey Lane, Lostock. He died from heart disease and bronchitis
at Ox Hey Lane on 10th February 1952.
