Alice
Ainscough was born in Blackrod around 1872 and was the daughter of
James Ainscough (1843) and his wife Mary Ann Hart. She was the granddaughter
of William Ainscough (1816). In 1881 she was aged 9, was living in
Little Scotland in Blackrod and was at school. In 1891 she was aged
19, was living with her parents at 384 Manchester Road, Blackrod and
was working as a domestic servant. In 1901, Alice was aged 29, was
working as a dressmaker and lodging with grocer Elizabeth Martlew
at 27 Liverpool Road in Hindley.
