THORN LANE , NORWICH

Picture from Norfolk County Council
Lemuel Broughton was the younger brother of great-grandfather Raymond Broughton. When the Broughton family moved from Spixworth to Norwich in the 1850s, Lemuel set up as a basket-maker in Thorn Lane, where he lived all his life, first at number 88 and then at number 45. Today's Thorn Lane is a modern, wide thoroughfare and the home of the Eastern Daily Press. All the old houses pictured in the photograph have been swept away either by the Lutwaffe or by the city planners.
