There
have been houseboats on the Adurs estuary at Shoreham Beach in Sussex
for a very long time, and they present a wonderful and varied array of
home-built and adapted residences on the riverside. I've photographed
them on several occasions over the years and the photos below are my

friends Fred and Polly Coles live on a huge German minesweeper - M1096
- and you can see Fred doing some maintenance work on the deck in a
couple of the shots.
