I've been a guide/steward at
Jill, the post mill on Clayton Hill in Sussex for many years. The mill
was built in Brighton in 1821 and stood in what is now the cul-de-sac
named Belmont - near Seven Dials - until 185, when it was sold,
dismantled and brought across the downs to be re-erected on its
present. Its neighbour Jack, the black tower mill, was built in 1866,
and the two mills ran together until 1906. After years of being left
alone, the windmill was restored by the Jack & Jill Windmill
Society and milled flour again in 1987.
